Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez insists that he ready to shock the world and end Floyd Mayweather's dominance at super welterweight when the pair collide on September 14.

Mexican prodigy Saul Alvarez has insisted that he has the tools at his disposal to beat Floyd Mayweather in their hotly-anticipated encounter later this year.

'Canelo' Alvarez will take on the pound-for-pound king on September 14 in Las Vegas, with the two champions putting their respective unbeaten records on the line in the year's biggest bout.

The 22-year-old believes that he can use the spirit of Mexican independence weekend to produce a memorable victory over Mayweather, despite entering the fight as a clear underdog.

He told reporters at the start of an 11-city media tour in New York: "I'm ready for the big challenges and now I have to prove it against Floyd Mayweather on September 14,.

"I said that I wanted to fight the best and here I am in front of the best pound-for-pound fighter, who I respect for his achievements, but on September 14, I will write a new page in boxing history because I'm going to be victorious.

"This fight is for all of my fans, my family and of course for Mexico because we're fighting on the weekend of Mexico's Independence. I've waited so long for this and my only option is to win."

Alvarez is yet to taste defeat in his 45-fight professional career, earning a notable unanimous decision win over Austin Trout in his last appearance two months ago.

Mayweather has admitted that taking the bout represents a calculated risk on his part, insisting that the fight has been made with the fans in mind.
