Eddie Hearn "confident" Carl Froch will fight in summer

Promoter Eddie Hearn is "confident" that Carl Froch will fight this summer after an injury forces the Briton to scrap plans to clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in March.

Eddie Hearn is "confident" that Carl Froch will step into the ring this summer after an injury forced the Briton to scrap plans to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in March.

The WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion had hoped to have the first Las Vegas date of his career before sustaining an elbow problem in training this week.

Froch has previously hinted that he would consider hanging up his gloves should he not fight in America this spring, but has now revealed that he is prepared to wait until the summer to get that chance.

Promoter Hearn is also optimistic that the 37-year-old will return to the ring later this year, despite retirement and fitness concerns, and has admitted that talks with Chavez Jr had been at an advanced stage.

"We have been deep in negotiations for some time and we were almost ready to go," he told reporters.

"Carl has gone into fights before not 100% fit and paid the price and he has made the right decision to hang fire.

"We will have a meeting early next week and plan out 2015. I'm confident we will see him back in the ring this summer."

The Cobra has lost just two of his 35 professional fights, with 24 of his 33 wins coming by way of knockout.
