Anthony Joshua: 'I need to be patient with career'

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua believes that he needs to "keep on grafting" before securing a high-profile fight with a domestic rival.

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua has revealed that he feels in no rush to fast-track his development in order to secure a high-profile domestic showdown this summer.

Joshua has been linked with a number of British opponents for the second half of 2015, but the Olympic gold medallist has insisted that he needs to be patient with his progression over the coming months.

The 25-year-old told Sky Sports News: "The likes of Dereck Chisora, Tyson Fury and David Haye have been professionals for over five years, whereas I am only in my second.

"It's great to be mentioned alongside these names because it shows that I have great potential in this division, but I have to be real about my progression and keep on grafting.

"Right now, I feel like I could compete with these guys. They would be very tough fights because they are talented but there will be a time where I should be able to knock these guys out or defeat them with a lot more ease than I would right now."

Joshua will face American Jason Gavern in his 11th professional fight in Newcastle on Saturday evening.
