Martin Murray links up with Matchroom Sport

Matchroom Sport announce that they have signed three-time world title challenger Martin Murray.

Martin Murray has revealed that he will make the move up to the super-middleweight division after signing a deal with Matchroom Sport.

After losing to middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin in February, Murray hinted that he was ready to target a major bout at 168lbs, and after penning a contract with Eddie Hearn's stable, the St Helens fighter has thrown his hat into the ring to face James DeGale in October.

The 32-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I've been in major fights all over the world against Felix Sturm in Germany, Sergio Martinez in Argentina and Golovkin in France but now I feel it's time that I had those major fights in the UK.

"I've fought the very best at middleweight and now I'm ready to do the same at 168lbs. It's a hot division and domestically can throw up some absolute wars.

"James DeGale did great to capture the world title and I'd love that fight later this year. George Groves is also challenging for a title and again, it's a fight I'd relish."

Murray will feature at Liverpool's Echo Arena on June 26 before looking to secure a high-profile contest in the winter.
