Floyd Mayweather Jr has retained his WBA and WBC welterweight titles with an unanimous points victory over Marcos Maidana.
Maidana had shown enough in the first fight between the boxers in May that he was deserving of a rematch against the unbeaten American, but he was outclassed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather Jr easily took the first three rounds, before Maidana responded with a sustained assault in the fourth, but like in their initial bout, this effort took a lot out of the Argentine.
At the start of the eighth, Maidana was already in need of a stoppage to end Mayweather Jr's undefeated streak, and it appeared that the South American bit his opponent as he attempted to unsettle the pound-for-pound king.
The fight continued after the referee missed the incident, but Mayweather Jr controlled the remainder of the bout to win on all three cards, with the judges scoring the fight 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112, although the five-weight world champion appeared to win by a more comfortable margin.
