Glenn McGrath hails Mitchell Johnson's display on day two of Ashes first Test

Glenn McGrath praises Australia bowler Mitchell Johnson after he took 4-61 on day two of the first Ashes Test against England in Brisbane.

Former Australia seamer Glenn McGrath has given credit to bowler Mitchell Johnson for his performance on day two of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.

The left-arm paceman ended the day on figures of 4-61 as the Aussies took a lead of 224 runs after bowling England all out for 136.

"Mitchell promised a lot going into this series and we said beforehand that he had to play after the way he had been bowling in the one-dayers in England and then in India," McGrath told BBC Sport.

"He was bowling hostile spells, he was bowling quickly on pretty placid decks in India and he came out here today and showed what he can do. He bowled aggressively, he bowled good pace and really stuck it up the English batsmen."

The only positive from England's perspective came in the form of Michael Carberry, who recorded 40 on his Ashes debut.
