Sean Abbott in New South Wales squad for first time since Phil Hughes death

Sean Abbott is named in the New South Wales squad for the first time since his bouncer resulted in the death of Australia batsman Phil Hughes.

Sean Abbott could return to action for the first time since the death of Australia batsman Phil Hughes after he was named in the New South Wales squad for their Sheffield Shield match, which begins tomorrow against Queensland.

There were concerns over whether the 22-year-old would play again after his bouncer, which hit Hughes on the neck, resulted in the batsman's death almost a fortnight ago.

However, Abbott's place in the New South Wales squad has been confirmed and the final XI will be announced on Tuesday morning ahead of the match, which will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground - the same venue where Hughes suffered fatal head injuries.

Cricket NSW have also stated that players have been given the option of withdrawing from the fixture if they do not feel ready to play less than one week after Hughes was laid to rest in his hometown of Macksville.

Australia's Test team will face India in their opening match, which begins in Adelaide tomorrow.
