The Delhi Daredevils have secured Kevin Pietersen's services at the Indian Premier League auction in Bangalore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad looked to have beaten off the competition with a bid of close to £880,000 but Delhi, for whom Pietersen played in 2012, stepped in to use their 'Right to Match' card.
Pietersen, considered to be one of the star attractions at this year's auction, was also the subject of bids from the Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.
The 33-year-old recently saw his international career come to an end when the ECB informed the batsman that he was no longer part of their plans, meaning that he is available for the entire IPL campaign.
Pietersen missed last season's competition due to injury.
