Joe Root warns Australia he is targeting multiple Ashes hundreds

Joe Root hopes that his century on day one of The Ashes doesn't turn out to be a "one-off" this summer.

England batsman Joe Root has said that he is determined to make the most of his good form and punish Australia this summer.

The 24-year-old scored 137 as England compiled 343-7 on day one of The Ashes, and he admitted that a more attacking impetus has made a big difference to his game.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's always nice to get a hundred against Australia, and hopefully it's the first of a few and not just a one-off.

"Attacking is becoming a bit more natural to me now, but more than anything when they attack it's the best time to attack them: that's when there are gaps, when they have guys in catching positions and it's easier to score quickly.

"It's not going to work every time, fortunately it did today."

Root was dropped for the last Ashes Test in January 2014 for poor form.
