Marcus Trescothick has said that he believes England's current bowlers remind him of the Ashes-winning attack of 2005 following their 169-run win in the first Test.
The 40-year-old was part of the Three Lions' team that triumphed over Australia in the 2005 series, ending a run of 16 years without a series win against the Baggy Greens.
The bowling attack of Matthew Hoggard, Simon Jones, Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff was key to the victory 10 years ago, and Trescothick feels that England have found a similar unit with James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ben Stokes and Mark Wood.
He told Sky Sports News: "I was buzzing, delighted for them and great to watch. Joe Root played brilliantly and the bowling unit got to grips with the pitch. The bowling attack is similar to the 2005 side.
"It's a four-prong attack with good pace – that's important – and a spinner [Moeen Ali] who is doing a job too. So that, on the back of some very positive batting, the team looks to be in good shape.
"England have been very positive which I guess started with the one-day internationals against New Zealand. It was good to see how we played Nathan Lyon the spinner. The batsmen were positive against him. The whole team had a positive approach and I thought Alastair Cook has done well."
The second Test starts on Thursday at Lord's.
