England have edged closer to victory at stumps on day four of the third Test against India at the Ageas Bowl.
The tourists were set a world-record run chase of 445 earlier in the day, but a disastrous evening session saw them reduced to 112-4 at the close of play.
India were bowled out for 330 at the start of the morning session, though England captain Alastair Cook opted against enforcing the follow-on.
Instead, the home side went back into bat and declared on 205-4 to give the Indians a huge target to win the match.
India's run chase got off to a terrible start when Murali Vijay was run out by Stuart Broad for 12, and it got worse soon after as Cheteshwar Pujara was caught by Chris Jordan off the bowling of Moeen Ali for two.
A rare Test wicket for Joe Root arrived when Shikhar Dhawan was sent back to the pavilion for 37 before a fine day with the ball for England was completed by Ali dismissing Virat Kohli for 28.
Ajinkya Rahane (18 not out) and Rohit Sharma (6 not out) will resume out in the middle when play gets back underway on the fifth and final day.
