England have refused to rule Ian Bell out of tomorrow's one-day international against the West Indies.
The 30-year-old suffered a suspected fractured jaw and required 10 stitches after top-edging a pull shot into his face in a nets session this morning.
However, captain Alastair Cook has revealed that there is still a chance that Bell could open the batting with him at Southampton.
"He's gone off for an X-ray, but we don't know what the situation is yet," said Cook. "It is a concern, because he didn't look in a good way when he walked off.
"There was quite a lot of blood, and he has had stitches. We will have to play it by ear."
Ravi Bopara is likely to be promoted up the order if Bell misses out.
