England captain Alastair Cook desperate to score runs

England captain Alastair Cook admits that he is desperate to score runs at the top of the order during his side's upcoming Test series against India.

England captain Alastair Cook has admitted that he is desperate to score runs during his side's upcoming Test series against India.

The 29-year-old, who has not scored a Test century for his country in over a year, has come under pressure following consecutive series defeats to Australia and Sri Lanka respectively.

Despite questions over his captaincy, Cook insists that he is still hungry to lead from the front.

"I never have felt that I have been hitting the ball particularly badly. I scored some runs for Essex at the beginning of the season. I have not managed to transform that into runs for England," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"I know how important it is to do that and I'm desperately keen to lead from the front and score some runs."

England get their five-Test series against India underway on Wednesday at Trent Bridge.
