India 'A' have finished on top after day one of their tour match with England as they reached 369-9 at the close of play.

Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann took three wickets each for England, but a knock of 93 from Manoj Towary and 73 from opener Abhinav Mukund ensured that India are firmly in charge of the three-day match.

Kevin Pietersen began his first match in an England kit since he was dropped from the international side for exchanging text messages regarding his England teammates with members of the South Africa team.

The 32-year-old endured an uneventful first day, bowling one over for seven runs and taking a catch to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane.

England suffered a blow in the morning session when Steven Finn pulled up with a thigh injury.
