Moeen Ali has insisted that he can lead the way for England at the top of the order in the one-day international series against Australia.
The all-rounder struck an unbeaten 74 as England clinched a five-run win over the tourists in the only Twenty20 match on Monday, and he is hopeful of being given a chance at the top of the order after Alex Hales and Jason Roy were trusted with the responsibility in the series against New Zealand earlier in the summer.
"It is good to come back into the side and contribute to a winning side," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "I have not been told where I'm batting in the one-dayers. I love opening the batting but wherever the team wants me to bat, I will bat.
"Opening definitely suits my game. I think with the fielding restrictions it doesn't really matter now but most of the time I enjoy the newer, harder ball because I don't have to hit it as hard.
"I find it better if I open the batting but I am happy at three, four, five or wherever. The guys who are opening at the moment are very exciting players."
Ali has opened the batting in 20 of his 22 ODI appearances.
