Kevin Pietersen has said that he will be "available" to play against England for a prime minister's team on Wednesday if required, after Michael Hussey dropped out.

Pietersen was sacked by England after the Ashes series last winter and is currently playing for Melbourne Stars in the Twenty20 Big Bash tournament, but he has suggested that he could take Hussey's place in the warm-up game.

The 34-year-old batsman made the comments during a match against Melbourne Renegades in conversation with commentator Adam Gilchrist.

He said: "In the prime minister's game on Wednesday, Mr Michael Hussey misses out. Jeez, I fancy that."

Gilchrist asked: "Are you telling us your available", and Pietersen responded: "Mate, I'm always available."

Pietersen scored 23 centuries in 104 Test matches for England.
