Michael Vaughan will reportedly be asked to step in and take over from Paul Downton as managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Downton left his position on Wednesday evening, with the new 'Director of England Cricket' title paving the way for a slight change in direction.
A decade on from guiding England to a memorable Ashes success, Vaughan is said to be the early frontrunner to take the role.
According to The Mirror, former captains such as Nasser Hussain and Andrew Strauss will also be considered, although the Yorkshireman is thought to have already held discussions with chief executive Tom Harrison.
In total, Downton spent 15 months in the job, in which time he oversaw the reappointment of Peter Moores as coach and the disastrous group-stage exit at last month's World Cup.
