Andrew Strauss has warned England's underperforming batsmen that nobody is guaranteed a spot in the team.
England have lost the current series with Pakistan after a string of poor batting displays condemned the side to successive defeats.
Ahead of the final Test in Dubai, Strauss has admitted that some players may be dropped should their form not improve.
The captain said: "Clearly we can't keep on underperforming forever so all of us have a responsibility on our shoulders to improve our games.
"I've always been a strong believer that no-one is guaranteed their place in the England side and the environment only works properly if there is pressure on you. So we've all got to work pretty hard over the next five days."
England must beat Pakistan in the match starting on Friday to preserve their number one spot in the ICC Test rankings.
