England begin their ICC Champions Trophy campaign with a 48-run victory over Australia.

England have started their ICC Champions Trophy campaign in winning fashion with a 48-run victory over Australia at Edgbaston.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, the hosts made 269-6 from their 50 overs before the Aussies posted a score of 221-9 in the Group A encounter.

Ian Bell topscored for England with a knock of 91, while Alastair Cook (30), Jonathan Trott (43) and Ravi Bopara (46 not out) all made sure that a middle-order collapse did not prove fatal.

Australia struggled for partnerships out in the middle as George Bailey (55), James Faulkner (54 not out) and Phillip Hughes (30) all toiled in vain.

Jimmy Anderson became England's all-time leading wicket-taker in ODIs when he dismissed Shaun Marsh for five.

Anderson went on to claim two more victims, while Tim Bresnan ended with two wickets to his name.
