Hampshire have confirmed that Jimmy Adams has stepped down as captain of the LV= County Championship side in an attempt to rediscover his form with the bat.
The 34-year-old led Hampshire to promotion as champions of Division Two last year, but has struggled this season, averaging just 29.15 in Division One.
"Adams feels that the most important thing right now is for him to focus on his batting and to get back to scoring runs at the top of the order," Giles White, Hampshire director of cricket, told the club's official website.
One-day captain James Vince, who succeeded Adams as captain for both limited-overs formats in April, will take over for the final six matches of the 2015 County Championship season.
