Sachin Tendulkar bids farewell in Mumbai

Indian batsmen Sachin Tendulkar pays an emotional tribute to his family and teammates after India's victory over West Indies brought an end to his international career.

Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has brought the curtain down on his 24-year career with an emotional speech in front of a sold-out crowd in Mumbai.

After India's dominant success over West Indies ended with Tendulkar's retirement in his 200th Test match, the Indian icon paid tribute to the part that his family had played during his career, before addressing his past and present teammates.

The 40-year-old said: "You are like my family away from home. I've had some wonderful times with you.

"It's going to be difficult to not be a part of the dressing room, sharing those special moments. I would also like to thank all of the coaches for their guidance. It has been special to me.

"I feel that all of us are so fortunate and proud to have been a part of the Indian cricket team. Knowing all of my teammates, I know that they will continue to serve the nation in the right spirit, and with the right values."

Tendulkar retires after amassing 15,921 runs during an illustrious Test career, which also includes a record 51 centuries.
