India have resoundingly beaten the West Indies in the first one-day international at Kochi, reaching their target of 212 with almost 15 overs to spare.
West Indies suffered an early blow in their innings when Chris Gayle was run out for a duck, but they recovered slightly following Johnson Charles's quick 42.
After Charles only Darren Bravo got himself in and the Windies were all out for a below-par 211; Bravo the only player to reach 50.
Dangerman Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed early off the bowling of Jason Holder, but Rohit Sharma quickly took it to the Caribbean attack and hit 72 off 81 in a fine second-wicket stand with Virat Kohli.
Kohli was finally out for 86 off just 84 again off the bowling of Holder, but by that time India needed just 20 runs to win.
Yuvraj Singh and captain MS Dhoni easily guided India past their required total in the 36th over as India took a 1-0 lead in the series.
