Yasir Shah in, Umar Gul out of Pakistan World Cup squad

Pakistan name largely untried spinner Yasir Shah in their 15-man World Cup squad, but there is no room for experienced seamer Umar Gul, Asad Shafiq or Saeed Ajmal.

Pakistan have named untried spinner Yasir Shah in their final 15-man squad for the 2015 World Cup.

The 28-year-old will act as a replacement for Saeed Ajmal, who withdrew himself from selection contention in order to give him more time to remodel his action and overturn his International Cricket Council ban.

Shah has played only a solitary one-day international - against Zimbabwe in 2011 - but took 27 wickets at an average of 26.29 in recent Test series against Australia and New Zealand, who co-host the tournament which starts next month.

There is a surprise recall for Sohail Khan following a three-year international exile, at the expense of experienced seamer Umar Gul. Junaid Khan and Ehsan Adil have recovered from injuries to bolster the bowling attack.

Asad Shafiq, Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal are among the other big names left out, but there is space for opening batsman Sohaib Maqsood, who missed the matches against the Kiwis in November.

Pakistan World Cup squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfraz Ahmed, Younus Khan, Haris Sohail, Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz
