South Africa have claimed control of their opening Test match against New Zealand in Cape Town this afternoon.
Having bowled out the tourists for just 45 runs from 19 overs earlier in the day, South Africa's reply got off to a negative start when captain Graeme Smith was trapped lbw by Doug Bracewell for just one run.
Smith's dismissal brought Hashim Amla to the crease and the 29-year-old went about steadying his nation's innings along with opener Alviro Petersen.
Amla was eventually out lbw to James Franklin for 66, which was 21 runs more than the entire New Zealand team had recorded.
He was replaced by Jacques Kallis, who remained at the crease when tea was called on six runs. Petersen was also still present and had managed to chalk up 45 runs to his name as South Africa went into the break 119-2.
