Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara has said that it means "everything" for his side to have won the World Twenty20 in his final match.
Sangakkara made an unbeaten 52 as Sri Lanka eased to a six-wicket victory over India in today's final, becoming the first team to beat them in this year's competition.
The 36-year-old announced last month that he would be retiring from Twenty20 cricket after the tournament, along with teammate Mahela Jayawardene, and he was delighted with the winning finale.
"It means everything. My family and then playing for Sri Lanka are the two most important things that have happened to me in my life," Sangakkara is quoted as saying by PA.
"There are no words to explain the pride we feel. All the guys out there are an amazing bunch. We wear these colours with a lot of pride and a lot of love. I'll miss the colours when I go in any format but everyone has got to go and my time from this is now."
Sri Lanka are the fifth different winners of the World Twenty20 in the five tournaments since its inception in 2007.
