Jens Voigt to attempt to break 'hour record'

Germany's Jens Voigt reveals that he will attempt to break the 'hour record', held by Ondrej Sosenka, later this month.

Jens Voigt has insisted that his attempt to set a new fastest time for the 'hour record' should not be seen as a "circus act".

The record, which is currently held by Czech Ondrej Sosenka, sees riders try to ride the furthest around a velodrome track in 60 minutes, and Voigt has revealed that he hopes to encourage a new batch of cyclists to try to write their name in the record books.

The 42-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "This is not a circus act. Maybe my attempt could kick off a new round of hour-record attempts."

Voigt is scheduled to ride on September 18, while former Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins has also indicated that he is keen to attempt a new record in 2015.
