Sir Bradley Wiggins will be Team Sky's lead rider at this year's Giro d'Italia.

Team Sky have confirmed that Olympic gold medalist Sir Bradley Wiggins will spearhead their challenge at next week's Giro d'Italia.

The race, which starts in Naples on Saturday, May 4, will take in 21 stages before it concludes on Sunday, May 21.

Having won the Tour de France for the first time last year, Wiggins recently confirmed that his target this season was to emerge victorious from the event in Italy.

"Alongside the Tour de France and Paris-Roubaix, the Giro d'Italia is one of the biggest bike races in the world and one I'd love to win. I've watched the Giro since I was a kid and have seen my idols win it, which makes it even more special. It has always been a race that I've wanted to ride well in and I just can't wait to get started," said Wiggins.

"I believe the Giro team this year is just as strong as the Tour de France team last year and the results prove that everyone is ready to go."

Wiggins will be accompanied by Dario Cataldo, Sergio Henao, Christian Knees, Danny Pate, Salvatore Puccio, Kanstantsin Siutsou, Rigoberto Uran and Xabier Zandio.
