Former Team Sky coach Sean Yates has described Geraint Thomas as a "phenomenon" as he continues to impress in this year's Tour de France.
The Welshman is playing a major part in Chris Froome's bid to win the race for a second time, but Yates believes that the two-time Olympic gold medallist can become a force in future editions of the biggest event in the sport.
Yates is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Geraint Thomas is a phenomenon, he's a one of a kind almost.
"Obviously Bradley Wiggins has won Olympic medals and won the Tour de France, and Geraint looks like he can follow in his footsteps in the long term."
Thomas is currently sitting in fifth place in the general classification.
