Mark Cavendish has taken the 100th stage win of his career on the opening day of the Giro d'Italia.
The Omega Pharma Quickstep rider found himself behind the front-runners in the closing stages, but caught the leaders to win in a sprint finish in Naples.
It is the Briton's 11th win at the Italian race and the fourth time that he has worn the leader's pink jersey.
Team Sky's Sir Bradley Wiggins, who is bidding to become the first British rider to win the general classification at the Giro, finished 18 seconds behind Cavendish.
