Silver-medal winning cyclist Kathrin Stirnemann has admitted that she did not expect to be on the podium in the women's mountain bike event at the European Games in Baku.
The Switzerland rider finished behind teammate Jolanda Neff to clinch a spot on the first ever podium at the inaugural European Games.
The 25-year-old told reporters: "It's a great feeling. It was a great race and a great performance. I didn't expect a podium because I was struggling a bit with my health in the last few weeks, but it was just perfect when everything went well.
"It was a bit tactical in the first few laps and then I was in the right position at the right moment. It is great to be second behind Jolanda.
"The wind made it hard but the course was perfect for me with short uphills and technical downhills."
Poland's Maja Wloszczowska completed the top three.
