Bradley Wiggins made history this afternoon by becoming the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France.

Wiggins's Team Sky teammate Mark Cavendish also created a little bit of history by winning the final stage, thus making it a fourth successive win for the world champion on the Champs Elysees.

In what has proved to be successful Tour for Team Sky, Chris Froome also secured his place on the overall podium, finishing second behind Wiggins.

Today's stage saw yellow jersey holder Wiggins head to the front of the pack with 1km remaining. Having set the pace and held off the challenge from numerous riders, Wiggins moved aside for Cavendish, who proceeded to sprint to the line. Cavendish has now won 23 stages during his career to date.
