Phil Taylor: 'I'm not ready to retire'

PDC world champion Phil Taylor insists that he will not contemplate retirement from darts until he is 55.

PDC world champion Phil Taylor has revealed that he will continue to play darts for at least the next three years.

Taylor came from 2-0 down to defeat Michael van Gerwen 7-4 in the PDC World Championship final on New Year's Day to win his 16th world title.

After he defeated Raymond van Barneveld in the semi-finals, the 52-year-old hinted that he had become disillusioned with the sport, but he has now insisted that he is not ready to retire.

Taylor told Sky Sports News: "I'm not going to walk away, but I do need a a bit of a rest now.

"I will be doing some promotional work in Dubai later this month but I am going to treat it as a little holiday too, and then I will get ready for the Premier League.

"I will definitely keep playing until I am 55 and then we will see after that."

As a result of his victory on Monday night, Taylor maintained his position as world number one in the PDC Order of Merit.
