Simon Whitlock and Wes Newton cruised into the last 16 of the PDC World Championship on Saturday courtesy of whitewash victories over Colin Osborne and Scott Rand respectively.

Whitlock, who will meet Dave Chisnall next, averaged 96.34 and was successful with 12 of his 22 darts at a double.

In a similarly impressive display, Newton hit five 180s and produced three 100+ finishes to set up a third round encounter against either Justin Pipe or Mark Walsh.

Defending champion Adrian Lewis also eased through, beating Denis Ovens 4-1.

Colin Lloyd overcame Mark Webster 4-2, but the match of the round was Kevin Painter's 4-3 victory over Ronnie Baxter.

Painter won seven consecutive legs early on, storming into a 3-1 lead in the process. However, Baxter took the next eight legs to level the match before moving 2-0 ahead in the deciding set.

The matched then seesawed decisively in Painter's favour, as the 15th seed reeled off four straight legs to edge through.

Earlier in the day, Raymond van Barneveld averaged 95.75 as he comfortably beat Brendan Dolan 4-1.

Barney will face Gary Anderson in the next round, while Painter will take on Lewis.

The winner of Sunday's grudge match between Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright will provide the opposition for Lloyd in the last 16.
