Phil Taylor loses again as Michael van Gerwen goes top of Premier League

Phil Taylor continues his dismal start to the 2014 Premier League after losing to Peter Wright in Belfast as Michael van Gerwen moves to the top of the standings.

Phil Taylor has fallen to his third successive defeat in the 2014 Premier League as he suffered a 7-4 loss to Peter Wright in Belfast.

The 16-time world champion averaged over 101 against the 2014 PDC World Championship runner-up but he couldn't equal Wright's consistent scoring to remain without a point in the table.

Michael van Gerwen withstood an impressive display from Dave Chisnall to move to the top of the standings with a 7-4 triumph.

Previous leader Adrian Lewis produced a below-par display to lose 7-2 to Wes Newton, but Robert Thornton comprehensively won the battle of the Scotsmen with a 7-2 success over Gary Anderson.

In the final game of the night, Raymond van Barneveld condemned Simon Whitlock to his third defeat with a 7-4 victory against the Australian.
