Channel 4 secures rights to 2024 Paralympics in Paris

Channel 4 announces that it has been awarded the UK broadcast rights to the 2024 edition of the Paralympic Games in Paris.

Channel 4 has secured the broadcast rights to the 2024 edition of the Paralympic Games, it has been announced.

The broadcaster was lauded for its extensive coverage of the London 2012 and Rio 2016 editions of the Games and is also gearing up to show the delayed Tokyo 2021 Games next summer.

The 2024 Paralympics will be held in Paris, which will mark the first time both the Olympics and the Paralympics are united under a single emblem - 'Paris 2024' - to promote equality between the two events.

Channel 4 chief exec Alex Mahon said: "The decision to award Channel 4 the rights to Paris 2024 enables us to continue to broadcast groundbreaking and innovative coverage of the Paralympics, continue to build athlete profiles and to further cement the careers of our presenters.

"We have an innovative new approach to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games which will be broadcast next year and I'm delighted that we have the opportunity to then build on our achievements over the next four years."

UK broadcast rights to the 2024 edition of the Olympics have already been awarded to Discovery, owner of Eurosport, who have come to a sub-licensing agreement with the BBC for FTA coverage.
