Darren Grimes announces his departure from GB News after over three years with the broadcaster.

Darren Grimes has departed GB News after more than three years with the broadcaster.

The 31-year--old joined the station in January 2022, initially hosting a weekend show called Real Britain before moving to become the lead presenter of new format The Saturday Five.

During last night's show, however, Grimes announced that he was leaving GB News in order to "pursue personal projects".

In a later post on his website, he denied social media allegations that he had been sacked, stating that he instead chose to leave in order to move online and be free of broadcast censorship.

"I want to start by making something crystal clear: I have chosen to leave GB News," he wrote. "This is my decision. I've not been pushed, prodded, or cancelled (for once).

"I've simply had enough of playing by someone else's rulebook, while our country's being run into the ground by a political class that couldn't care less."

He continued: "This isn't the end. It's just the bloody beginning. For years, I've been trying to sound the alarm. But when you're working within the system — even one that prides itself on being anti-establishment — you're always looking over your shoulder. There's always an Ofcom. Always a boardroom. Always a line you're not supposed to cross."

Alex Armstrong will replace Grimes as the new main host of The Saturday Five from next weekend.
