DAZN head Shay Segev confirms that the broadcaster is looking to bid for UK rights to the Premier League.

DAZN chief executive Shay Segev has confirmed that the broadcaster is looking to enter the running for UK rights to the Premier League.

The rights to 200 games a year are currently held by Sky Sports (128 games), BT Sport (52 games) and Amazon's Prime Video (20 games) in a deal that expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Bidding on the next three-year cycle, which could include a lifting of the 3pm blackout to make all 380 games available, is expected to begin in early 2024 and Segev says that he views the auction as "a high priority" for DAZN.

"Football is obviously very big in the UK and EPL is an option on our menu," he told The Times. "If the question is do we have any ambition to go to this market, the answer is of course yes. And it's not only ambition it's a high priority on my list.

"DAZN is a sports service and clearly we will try to get bigger packages but the maths needs to work.

"The question is the economic situation, the competition and whether we will be in a position to be strong enough to position ourselves as the best. I am very, very confident that in the mid to long-term we can be a big player in the UK.

"Whether this takes two years, five years, seven years, time will tell."

DAZN has a limited profile in the UK at the moment but becomes the exclusive broadcaster of Anthony Joshua fights from April, with recent rumours suggesting that it could launch a traditional linear TV channel alongside its streaming service in the near future.
