Sky introduces a second generation of Sky Glass TVs and announces the arrival of Sky Glass Air for later this year.

Sky has launched a new generation of Sky Glass sets which it claims will make the product "more affordable than ever".

Sky Glass is a TV set with Sky's TV service built in, with channels being streamed over the internet rather than via a conventional satellite dish, effectively turning Sky into a plug-and-play product.

The "Gen 2" sets - launched last Wednesday - feature enhanced HDR as well as in-built sound, including a soundbar and dual subwoofer, negating the need for additional audio speakers.

Fraser Stirling, Sky's global chief product officer, explained: "We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps.

"The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it's more affordable than ever to get Sky TV."

Later this year the company also intends to launch a new product called Sky Glass Air, a cheaper version of the regular Sky Glass featuring an HDR screen and 2.0 stereo speakers with Dolby Audio.
