ITV has taken the decision to postpone tonight's episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale following the death of Prince Philip at the age of 99.
Shortly after midday Buckingham Palace announced that the Duke of Edinburgh had passed away at Windsor Castle earlier this morning, two months on from his hospitalisation for an infection and heart problems.
ITV cut into This Morning to switch to breaking news coverage from the ITV News studio and has now provisionally dropped almost all of its scheduled programming for the rest of the day.
Emmerdale had been due to air at 7pm, with an hour-long Coronation Street following at 7.30pm, but both soaps have been dropped and are likely to be rescheduled for Sunday night or Monday.
In their place ITV plans to air Prince Philip: Fondly Remembered from 7pm, with Prince Philip: A Royal Life following on at 9pm.
ITV's coverage of the Grand National Festival has been switched to ITV4, while ITV2 and ITV3 are continuing to broadcast their planned schedules.
