Sally and Tim to take opposite sides in Coronation Street

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod reveals that the fallout from Yasmeen's attack on Geoff could spell trouble for Tim and Sally.

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that the fallout from Yasmeen's attack on Geoff will take its toll on one of the cobbles' most popular couples.

In Monday's episode, viewers saw Yasmeen (Shelley King) arrested for stabbing husband Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) after many months of emotional abuse.

Tim (Joe Duttine) will naturally side with his father, who claims that it was an unprovoked attack, but his wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) has long-held suspicions about the nature of the relationship and shares her concerns with Yasmeen's granddaughters (Sair Khan).

"It sucks in loads of characters - Alya and Sally are very pivotal," MacLeod told The Sun. "She has never been Geoff's biggest fan and she is among the first to have seen what goes on behind closed doors - this provides huge material for her and Tim.

"Tim has been gaslighted since birth so he and Sally are on separate sides and there are tensions that are created as they have polar opposite views. It will continue to be brilliantly acted by the exceptional Shelley and Ian which hasn't come as any surprise.

"A lot of the feedback we have had is to say how authentic this is and how resonate they have been. The story will continue to showcase their talents."

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
