The BBC confirms that the three 60th anniversary episodes of Doctor Who will air on Saturday nights starting next month.

The BBC has confirmed that the three 60th anniversary episodes of Doctor Who will air on Saturday nights from next month.

David Tennant is returning to the show as a new incarnation of The Doctor for the specials and will be joined by Catherine Tate as former companion Donna Noble.

Also appearing in the episodes are Yasmin Finney, Miriam Margolyes, Jacqueline King, Karl Collins, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, the late Bernard Cribbins and Neil Patrick Harris, the latter of whom will play old enemy The Toymaker.

The first episode, 'The Star Beast', will air on BBC One on Saturday, November 25, followed by 'Wild Blue Yonder' on December 2 and 'The Giggle' on December 9.

The news means that Doctor Who will be paired up with ratings powerhouse Strictly Come Dancing in the heart of the Saturday night schedule.

Directly after each episode, behind-the-scenes spinoff show Doctor Who Unleashed will be broadcast on BBC Three and iPlayer.

Following the specials, Ncuti Gatwa will go on to assume the mantle of The Doctor over the Christmas period.
