Hugh Grant denies a suggestion that he is in line to take over the lead role on Doctor Who.

Hugh Grant has quashed speculation that he could replace Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor on Doctor Who.

Whittaker leaves the iconic role later this year, with returning executive producer Russell T Davies charged with hiring a new Doctor for 2023 onwards.

A report in The Guardian over the weekend linked esteemed actor Grant, 61, with the part but he has moved to deny the rumours.

Quote tweeting the original report, he added: "Nothing against Dr W but I'm not. No idea where the story came from."

The identity of the new Doctor is expected to be confirmed in the next few weeks, with filming due to begin next month.
