EastEnders exec producer Chris Clenshaw says that more former characters will be returning to the soap in the near future.

EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw has said that more characters from the past will be returning to the soap in the near future.

Earlier this year a shock storyline saw the presumed-dead Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) make a comeback after 25 years, joined by ex-husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and son Peter (Thomas Law).

Other characters to reappear under Clenshaw's reign have included Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) and Lisa Fowler (Lucy Benjamin) - and now the exec has promised that more are on the horizon.

"There will be some characters returning in the not too distant future," he told the Daily Star. "They will be announced soon. Watch this space."

He added: "We have [also] got some new characters coming that are arriving soon."

EastEnders continues Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and from 6am on iPlayer.
