Piers Morgan comments on Twitter for the first time after deciding to leave Good Morning Britain.

Piers Morgan has taken to Twitter for the first time following the news that he has quit Good Morning Britain.

ITV announced on Tuesday afternoon that the 55-year-old had decided to leave the breakfast show after more than five years as pressure mounted on him following his controversial comments about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

More than 41,000 people complained to TV regulator about Monday's edition of the programme, which featured Morgan's hot take on the Sussexes' interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Morgan doubled down on his criticism of the couple on Tuesday - even storming off set at one point when questioned by colleague Alex Beresford - and according to press reports, he handed in his resignation to ITV after being asked to make an on-air apology.

Prior to ITV's announcement of his departure, Morgan - an avid user of Twitter - shared a GIF of a ticking clock but remained silent until late on Tuesday, when he posted a tweet referencing his former manager John Ferriter, who died suddenly in 2019.

"Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight," he wrote, sharing a picture of them both. "He'd have told me to do exactly the same thing. @GMB #TrustYourGut"

Morgan's long-time co-host Susanna Reid has yet to comment on the news.
