Line of Duty star Martin Compston promises that this weekend's last in the series will deliver answers.

Line of Duty's Martin Compston has assured fans that this weekend's final episode of the series will provide "a lot of big answers".

A long-running story arc over the six series of the show has concerned the mysterious 'H', a group of four corrupt senior police officers - only three of which have been identified to date.

Heading into the final episode, superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), the head of AC-12 and possible suspect for the 'Fourth Man' is on the verge of an enforced retirement, while Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) remains in prison after her family ties to the OCG were exposed.

With a lot of loose ends still to tie up, Compston - aka Steve Arnott - confirmed to the Shrine of Duty podcast that fans will be rewarded for their patience.

"There are a lot of payoffs coming this Sunday," he said. "There are a lot of big answers that are coming, and I think it's deserved. You know, people have stuck with us for such a long time.

"I think there comes a point where the natural story arc that's been running all these years is coming to an end."

Asked if the show could return for a seventh series, he replied: "The genuine answer is we don't know, but that's nothing different for us.

"Jed [Mercurio] always takes time. After a series he always takes a couple of months... I think he likes to take the emotion out of it and sit down and look at all that."

Line of Duty concludes Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
