Kevin Feige confirms Deadpool 3 will be part of MCU

Marvel chief Kevin Feige reveals that the third Deadpool will be set within the MCU and maintain the franchise's R-rating.

Marvel Studios chairman Kevin Feige has confirmed that the upcoming third Deadpool movie will be set within the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds has now played the unconventional superhero in two movies, with Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 paving the way for the character to make the move across to the Marvel Universe.

Fans had questioned whether the move would lead to Deadpool being toned down or softened to fit in with the more family-friendly MCU, but Feige has now revealed that the third film will be Marvel's first R-rated movie.

Speaking to Collider, he said: "It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now...

"It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun.

"Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

Filming is likely to take place in 2022, suggesting that the movie will be released in 2023 as one of the later films in Marvel's Phase Four slate.
