Paul Bettany explains WandaVision's studio audiences

Paul Bettany explains why some episodes of the upcoming WandaVision were shot in front of a live studio audience.

Paul Bettany has discussed the reason for some episodes of WandaVision being shot in front of a live studio audience.

The new MCU TV series - launching on Disney+ next month - sees Bettany's Vision appear alongside Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) on what seems to be a classic sitcom from the 1950s.

The pair live out seemingly ordinary suburban lives, with the first few episodes shot in a studio with a live audience - until the characters start to figure out that their 'reality' is not all it is cracked up to be.

"It was so much fun, and there was a practical reason for [the audiences], which is you're trying to have exactly the same production values as you would in one of the movies," Bettany told Reelblend.

"So being able to shoot one episode in two days and really curtail the amount of time you're spending on those early episodes - and shooting them as they would have been shot in the 1950s, with three-camera setups and through sets that are built on a stage with an audience - you get through it really quickly.

"And then you're able to bank that time to shoot the action."

The six-part series will debut on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
