BBC halts filming on EastEnders, Casualty, Doctors

The BBC confirms that it has halted production on EastEnders, Casualty, Doctors and Holby City with immediate effect due to coronavirus.

The BBC has announced that production has been suspended on all of its continuing dramas with immediate effect amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The news means that filming has stopped on EastEnders, Casualty, Doctors and Holby City as part of a nationwide effort to slow the progress of the deadly disease.

The number of episodes broadcast will be cut down on all four series in order to make them last as long as possible, with EastEnders dropping down from four to two episodes per week.

"In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice," the corporation said in a statement. "The decision was made after the latest government update.

"We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and public health organisations."

Production on ITV's flagship soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale is still thought to be underway as it stands.
