Betty White, 98, signs up to appear in Christmas movie

Betty White signs up to appear in a new movie at the age of 98.

Legendary actress Betty White has signed up for a new project at the age of 98.

Recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest career of any entertainer ever, with more than eight decades in the business, White appears to be showing no signs of letting up as she moves towards 100 years old.

Lifetime have announced that the eight-time Emmy winner has signed up to appear in an untitled Christmas movie, playing a drill sergeant who "helps ready would-be Santas for the holidays".

White, whose career started in 1939 on a Los Angeles TV channel, led her first sitcom in the 1950s with the pioneering Life With Elizabeth before going on to have a part in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and becoming a regular fixture on the TV panel circuit.

In 1985 White took on arguably the defining role of her career, playing the ditsy Rose Nylund in classic sitcom The Golden Girls, then in 2010 - at the age of 88 - she took on a new series regular role in Hot In Cleveland, which went on to run for six seasons.

White is currently said to be "fine" and isolating at her home in Beverly Hills during the coronavirus pandemic.
