Sam Smith: "I love poppers"

Sam Smith admits that they "love poppers" and confirms reports they enjoyed the legal high on a night out with Nicole Scherzinger before Christmas.

Sam Smith has revealed that they "love" poppers and enjoyed them on a night out with Nicole Scherzinger in London last year.

The legal high became popular in the gay community in the 1970s and has the effect of brief euphoria and relaxed muscles.

Talking to Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show, Smith was asked about reports that they had shared poppers with Pussycat Dolls singer Scherzinger at a London gay bar just before Christmas.

"I feel bad. I can completely confirm I love poppers," they said. "I LOVE poppers. I've been ashamed to say that, but I have so much fun when I do poppers.

"I guess some people would look at it and think that it's just not good. And I'm not trying to endorse it 'cause I know they're not good for you. I know they're not good for you. I mean, booze isn't go for you as well, right?

"I think Nicole has definitely gone out to a fair amount of gay bars in her life. We've been out a few times in London. But yeah, we were just out that one time. I honestly didn't think anyone could see us. Yeah, we just got a bit rowdy and, yeah, it was fabulous."

Smith released new single 'I'm Ready', a duet with Demi Lovato, on Friday.
